JANE DOE
Episode #FK3-19 (1st Run)
Third Season (04/27/96)

Written by Michael Sadowski
Directed by Nicholas J. Gray

Guest Starring Ron White as Jordan Manning

Prologue:
A man in black pulls a body from a car then drags it into the woods. He
throws a rope over a tree and ties one end around the hands of the body. The
rope is pulled until the body of a black woman hangs in the moonlit night. A
double barreled shotgun is loaded and aimed at the face of the woman. There
are two blast and the body is shown spinning as the the man walks away.

The Story:
A TV talk show host interviews Jordan Manning who was recently released from
prison after serving time for manslaughter. He has written a book about a
serial killer. "'Killing Mind' is a story about a poetry spouting,
psychopathic killer.", taunts the host. She asks if any of him is in the book
and he says that every novelist tends to enrich his characters with their own
life experiences. An angry Reese watches in disgust, but is called to the
Coroner's.

At the morgue, Natalie shows the guys the horrific mutilated body of the
woman found in the woods. Even Nick is disturbed, but Tracy has to leave the
room. There is no way to identify the body; Reese calls it a desecration! He
then announces that he knows who did it.

Reese tells Nick and Tracy that it was Manning. He tells them he was a cold
blooded serial killer; the single most vile and racist individual he ever
came across in all his years as a cop. Then he says that you may think you
have seen evil, but you've never seen evil like this guy! Nick recalls a time
at the end of world war one when he and Lacroix were riding on a train
through Germany with a young German Corporal that was angry about the loss of
the war.

Reese brings out a pile of unsolved Jane Doe files that have the MO of
Manning on them. He is positive that Manning killed them all. Nick asks how
he is so sure. Reese says that he was 95 percent sure until he told him that
he did it.. in the book.

Reese tells Tracy to work with Natalie -- so she will get over her
squeamishness. He tells her to find out who the Jane Doe is. Tracy finds some
evidence under the woman's fingernails and later they discover that the
victim might have been a doctor.

Reese and Nick confront Manning at a book signing. Manning makes a few
raciest remarks to Reese and things get a little tense. Nick helps to calm
Reese down.

Nick recalls the young German sketching a portrait of Lacroix and Lacroix
thinking he would be a good candidate to be brought across. Lacroix was about
to give the young artist the bite, but something stopped him.

Will Manning get away with another murder?
Will Tracy get over her squeamishness?
Who is Jane Doe?
Will Cpt. Reese blow his cool?

Episode Quote: "I often wondered how the world would be different..
if I'd done what I had intended?" -Lacroix

Review *** This one could be a Toronto X-File. Between the insane Manning, a
vampire cop, and the gruesome, mutilated corpse -- we sure have all the
ingredients. And how about the subplot.. could you imagine the horror that
could of occurred had Lacroix amplified that insane German corporal? This is
a violent crime drama, to say the least. Reese is at the center of this story
about insanity, racism and hatred. We can also see that the toll of homicide
detective is beginning to get to Nick. He seems almost depressed at times.
Even in the back story he appears to be a bit glum. Living so long and having
seen so much depravity can even depress an immortal. Could we be leading up
to something?
