FALLEN IDOL Episode 3-18 (1st Run)
Written by Gary Stephen Rieck
Directed by Geraint Wyn Davies
Post Production Release: February 14, 1996
Guest Starring Rob Stefaniuk as Joey, Todd William Schroeder as Henry Ellis,
Hayden Christensen as Andre
Prologue:
Joey, a mentally challenged teenager, sees his Uncle shooting steroids.
Later, while filming a promo for a wrestling match, he helps his idol,
Bulldozer, a masked wrestler that he doesn't understand is also his Uncle
Henry. When Bulldozer's opponent, Nitro, makes fun of Joey a real fight
ensues. Later Joey walks into the locker room and sees Bulldozer who has just
killed Nitro. Bulldozer runs off without speaking to a confused Joey.
The Story:
Natalie finishes her examination of the body, and heads for her car. Henry is
questioned by Tracy and Nick. He tells them that Joey has disappeared and
that he is mentally slow. Joey has lived with him since his parents were
killed in a car crash.
Outside; Natalie gets into her car and is startled by a scared Joey who's
been hiding in the back. Natalie and Joey return to see his uncle and he
tells everyone that he saw Bulldozer hurt Nitro.
Henry is taken in and questioned. He says that he found the body, but never
saw Joey. He says that he did not kill Nitro and if Joey saw somebody it
wasn't him. He says that Joey gets mixed up some times. He claims that when
Nitro was killed he was with the trainer. Henry is booked when his alibi
doesn't check ooot. (Sorry Canadian's - Paul)
The boy has nowhere to go and is their only witness, so Natalie and Nick get
to keep him for the night. They take him to Nick's loft and make him paint
the lift door, hang some paintings and clean old blood bottles.
Having custody of Joey reminds Nick of a dark time in his life. LaCroix and
he are standing at the grave of Fleur, who died of a mortal disease. LaCroix
tells him that he could have saved her.. brought her across, but noooo!
Nicholas tells LaCroix that it's not what *she* wanted, but LaCroix reminds
him that it's not what *he* wanted and will remind him of it often. Nicholas
tells LaCroix that his sister asked him to take care of her son, Andre.
LaCroix says:- "You can't be serious ... You know how it will end!"
Joey's making soup and offers Nick some; Nick says:- "I never eat.. soup!"
Nick asks Joey about the murder, while trying to hypnotize him, but it
doesn't work! Nick mentions to Nat:- "If only his brain was normal."
Nat says that there's a chance it could be if she were to give him an
injection of Nick's blood, but Nick wont' hear of it. She says that even if
it's temporary, they could learn what happened, which might free his Uncle
and keep him out of a state home.
While Nick is sleeping, Nat gives Joey a very small shot of Nick's blood.
After a bit, Joey helps Natalie with her computer. He's turned into a geek.
(A fate worse than death!) Nick is angry at Nat and scolds her for what she's
done, because they don't know what the side effects might be.
Nick and Tracy learn that Nitro was going to testify that Henry was taking
steroids. This could have been his motive for the murder. When questioned
about it, he confesses that he was using steroids to give him an edge. He
talks about how Joey had put Bulldozer on a pedestal and he wanted to be his
best for him. Nick recalls how his sister's son, Andre, thought he was a
great guy. LaCroix stops by and says:- "Good evening, may I come in?"
LaCroix asks Nicholas what the boy will think of him when he finds out what
he is. Nicholas puts off telling Andre.. so LaCroix helps him out. (We learn
that this was a time when Nicholas was as dark and evil as Dracula!) LaCroix
and Andre watch as Nicholas feeds on two young women that he has been keeping
in the basement for dinner. (Quite chilling!) The boy runs off; his idol has
fallen. (I guess LaCroix thinks boys are for snacks!)
Will Nick and Tracy solve the murder.. or did Henry really do it?
Will Joey suffer any side effects from Nat's experiment on him?
Will Nick forgive Nat for experimenting with vampire blood on the boy?
Will the Nat Packers be able to handle the role reversal?

Review *** When a story pulls at something inside and brings a wetness to my
eyes, I decide pretty fast that I've seen something good. There has been
better and worse, but this story was good for a couple of reasons. We find
out a little more about Nicholas in his early days as a dark, blood thirsty
vampire and for once, Geraint has directed Catherine not to play Natalie as a
hard frustrated woman. This time we see her as the chance taker that gets her
into trouble; and Nick gives *her* the nasty looks.
Ger's in his green mood, using green lighting for some very interesting
effects. When the strong green light lit up Natalie in the Raven, it reminded
me of Catherine in War Of The Worlds; just for a second. It certainly didn't
distract from the story.
But I digress; the subplot with Nicholas, LaCroix and Andre is moving and
eerie. It is clear that the writer and Ger had Dracula in mind when creating
it. Nat Packers won't like the role reversal, Cousins will be happy to see
LaQ as dark and sarcastic as ever and the Knighties can be happy that for
once, Nick gets to give Nat the shame on you look.
