AVENGING ANGEL
Episode 3-17 (1st Run)

Written by Alison Bingeman
Directed by Alan Simmonds

Post Production Release: February 8, 1996

Guest Starring Diane Cary (Parriott) as Laura Stone, Lindsey Connell as
Julie, Sharry Flett as Barbara Vetter, Hardee T. Lineham as Jack Henderson

Prologue:
A young girl's Mother has come to visit her at a shelter for battered women.
There are screams of horror heard from her room--a frantic Laura Stone opens
the locked door to find the girl's Mother stabbed to death.

The Story:
Tracy's Mother shows up unexpectedly. Tracy tells her she can stay at her
place while she is in town, then she heads for the crime scene.

Outside the safe house, a reporter is taping the story when an angry Nick,
who doesn't want the safe house exposed, convinces the reporter that he is
finished by using the old hypno bit. (how come this always works on men?)

No weapon is found and the window has been broken outward. An A.P.B. has been
put out on Jack Henderson, the woman's husband.

Nick asks Laura Stone, the manager of the safe house, to come down to the
station and be with Julie, the young girl who's Mother was killed. Laura says
to Nick that he must see this stuff all the time. Nick recalls a time in
China, when women were the property of men and smacking them about was
considered the right thing to do. A man knocks down his concubine, angering
Nicholas. He grabs the guy and threatens to kill him if he ever does it
again. LaCroix chimes in with:- "Trust him, he means what he says!"

Julie tells Tracy that her Father was stalking her Mother and he broke into
her room and killed her. She claims that he came to beat and rape her, again.

Reese isn't sure the Father is the killer. He says that regardless of the
mans past abuse record, the jury is still out. In order to convince Reese
that Henderson is dangerous, Laura tells them how the girl was raped, at the
age of fourteen, by her Father. Laura is convinced that Henderson killed his
wife and that Julie is in danger.

Tracy talks to her Father and learns that the reason her Mother is in town,
is to file for divorce. Tracy asks her Father if she was supposed to give her
Mom a field sobriety test in her living room. The Vetter family is having
problems too.

Tracy tells Nick that she doesn't know whether she is supposed to be her
parents daughter or their referee.

They arrive at the hospital where Henderson is being stitched up. When Nick
goes in to arrest him, he runs out the back and right into Tracy. She puts
her gun to his head and pulls a dirty Harry. (Don't get Tracy mad at ya!)

Henderson tells Tracy and Nick that Julie killed her Mother and he had to
jump out the window before she stabbed him, but Nick doesn't buy it.

Later Henderson is released because of a technicality. This really angers
Laura who accuses the police of being incompetent. She says that Henderson is
going to get away with it.

Tracy returns home and finds her Mother drinking. They get into an argument
and Tracy smacks her.

Nat tells Nick that a knife found at Henderson's was not the murder weapon.
She says that she sees more and more of these kind of cases. Nick says it's
an old story that doesn't seem to want to end. He recalls the Cantonese girl
who he thought was killed by her man. He avenges her death by killing the
man. In the meantime, LaCroix detects a little life left in the girl; and he
has her for dinner.

Will Nick solve this baffling mystery?
Will Henderson get off on a techno.?
Will Tracy patch things up with her Mother?
Hey Laura, where are ya going with that gun in your hand?

Episode Quote: "What's the special occasion, Mom. Is it because it's
                Wednesday?" -Tracy

Review ** This is another cop story; the only sign of vampires is in the back
story. The stories of battered women have been told many times and this is
pretty much a rehash. The episode is well done, but with no real surprises.

Did I miss the episode where Nick became mortal? The only indication that he
is anything more than a normal guy, is in the back story. He uses no vampire
sense or powers, except for a little hypno. He doesn't even appear all that
interested in the case. At the end, he is so depressed over the injustices
done to women, some by his fangs, that he can't even get into flight to
*maybe* stop a murder. It *is* kind of creepy in a non vampire sort of way!
Natalie comforts him as though we didn't get to see a chapter of this story.

The best scene was between Tracy and her Mom; it was well acted, written and
directed.

I don't like Nick as a mortal.. he's a wimp!
